Every year we have a tradition in the Forto house where we celebrate the greatest month of the year, October, with scare your socks off, hide under the covers, turn on all the lights, sleep with one eye open, fright fest, movie marathon every night of the month! We call it 31 Days of Horror.
Day 30 Movie: Friday the 13th (1980)
Leave it to us Americans (and maybe Hallmark) to form a holiday for just about everything and then release a movie about. A horror movie even… There is Friday the 13th Part 1 to a Gazillon, Halloween, Black Christmas, My Bloody Valentine, heck even Ferris Bueller’s Day Off!
But what started this craze in horror has to be Friday the 13th. The prototypical slasher flick from the 80’s that had everything that is sacred in scary movies:
A lot of college co-eds (in various stages of undress)
A couple dumb jocks
A bunch of kids investigating strange noises even when they just saw their friend die
A guy in filthy coveralls and a mask that doesn’t talk
And a killer that refuses to die so you can have countless sequels for generations to love!
This is Jason Voorhees and Friday the 13th! This is the movie that introduced the world to hockey (unfortunately nobody still doesn’t watch it on TV) and brought to us countless slasher films over the next three decades that continue to empty our pocket books, fold overs, bill-folds, change purses, and endless allowance advances that we never paid back to dear old mom and dad!
Plot: One summer at Camp Crystal Lake, a group of young counselors begin to get ready to lead campers. Unfortunately for the former, someone isn’t happy about what’s going on in the camp and enjoys playing Kill the Counselor. As bodies fall to the ground in the camp, no one is safe.
