It was a beautiful day, the snow beat down
I had my parka on, I was mushing
Trees went by, me and the dogs were singing
Fast trails today, I was flying
Yeah, mushing down a dream,
That I always thought would be
The trail is a mystery, going where ever it leads
Mushing down a dream
I feel so good, like anything is possible
Turned the headlamp on and rubbed my eyes
The last 50 miles, the snow was impossible
It was always cold, no sunshine
Yeah, mushing down a dream
That I always thought would be
The trail is a mystery, going where ever it leads
Mushing down a dream
I mushed on, the sky drew dark
I barked out the commands to make up time
There’s something good, waiting down this trail
I’m picking up gear, what ever is mine
I’m mushing down a dream,
That I always thought would be
The trail is a mystery, going where ever it leads
Mushing down a dream
Yeah, mushing down a dream,
That I always thought would be
The trail is a mystery, going where ever it leads
Mushing down a dream
The Tom Petty version of this song; Runnin’ Down a Dream is what inspired me to write some of these crazy lyrics. In fact that song has sort of been my mantra for all of these years trying to do what it took to make the next step to run the Iditarod. That dream is coming closer, and closer to reality.
I just wonder where that trail leads…
