Pacific Northwest Road Trip Part 2

Michele in Seaside

We made it to Seaside and made a bee-line for the ocean. It had been almost twenty years since Michele has seen her beloved Pacific Ocean and we quickly made it down to the water in a rainstorm and picked up a few seashells. Michele looked like she was having the time of her life!

Before we left Michele had titled this trip the Goonies Adventure and had a plan in place to check out some of the sights from the 80s movie that we all loved as kids. Who could ever forget “Chunk”?

We drove down the coast to Cannon Beach and found Goonies Rock. The spot that Michele was looking for. She jumped out of the car almost before I could get to a stop and ran down to the shore to take some photos. It was still pouring down rain and we were soaked to the core but it’s Oregon right? I lived here 7 years and never owned an umbrella!

I proceeded down the coast to Tillamook for the next stop on our road trip–The Tillamook Cheese Factory. I love cheese–e’nuff said. We bought some cheese curds for a snack on the road and grabbed an ice cream cone.

"Goonies Rock"

Our next stop was about an hour north to Astoria. It was part of the Goonies tale and a town with a lot of history in the Pacific Northwest. We drove over the super-high bridge into Washington and checked out Fort Columbia.

As we were crossing the bridge we decided on a whim that we should head up to Seattle. It was talked about as we were making plans for the trip but it was 160 miles north.

As it was getting dark on Friday night we headed up I-5 to the Emerald City.

More to come…
