Pacific Northwest Road Trip Part 3

February 10, 2011

Daily Post, Robert Forto

On Saturday morning we sought out a cool spot for breakfast and found one using UrbanSpoon–by far one of the coolest apps on the iPhone.

Oh, I forgot to mention Michele took it upon herself to sign up for an iPhone since Sprint does not work in Alaska and since her contract was set to expire soon she went with AT&T.

Michele has finally sipped the Apple juice! And will soon be an addict like the rest of us!

We found the coolest place, The Portage Bay Cafe. [ Read my review here ] and had one of the best breakfasts of our life.

After breakfast we headed downtown to do the tourist thing. We went up in the Space Needle, checked out Pikes Place Market and made the pilgrimage to the original Starbucks.

Space Needle

It was funny that the original Starbucks was so packed with people taking pictures and standing in a line that went out the door, especially when there was another Starbucks right up the street with only a few people inside.

The Original Starbucks

We checked out the Experience Music Project in the City Center and I will have to say it was the coolest things that I have ever EXPERIENCED. They had a massive sculpture of guitars that were hooked up to play music randomly and you could hear it through a set of head-phones. It totally rocked. The tour included the history of the guitar and a Jimi Hendrix exhibit. Totally wort the money, in my opinion.

We grabbed dinner at a seafood place in the Market and as soon as we sat down the waiter said they didn’t serve dinner and the kitchen closed in 15 minutes. We munched on steamed clams, cod and a really good cup of clam chowder watching the boats and ferries go by in the Sound.

We headed to Fife, Washington with me posting on FoursquareWhere’s Barney? (Barney Fife from The Andy Griffith Show–get it…) and grabbed a hotel room.

We had wanted to stay at the Emerald Queen Casino across the street but they were booked so we gave each other a twenty dollar bill and played the penny slots. Michele had lost it all before I did but we both went home an hour and a half later 20 bucks poorer but it was a good time.

We saw an ad for a Super Bowl party at the Casino’s other location six miles down the highway and decided to do that on Sunday.

More to come…
